Mars Ireland is recalling a number of its chocolate products following concerns they could be contaminated with Salmonella.

The confectionary company says they are "voluntarily recalling" the bacteria may have ended up in ingredients used in some of its Galaxy bars and pouches, as well as Maltesers' 35-gram Teasers bars.

Mars Ireland is recalling 112g bags of Galaxy Counters with the product ID code AW99G, batch numbers 720B1SLO00 and 720C1SLO00 and best before dates of 13.05.2018.

35g bars of Malteasers Teasers with the product ID code AX46E, batch numbers 720C1SLO00 and 720D2SLO00, and best before date of 13.05.2018 are also being recalled.

The company issued a statement saying they "have detected the possible presence of Salmonella from the ingredients used in making some of our GALAXY® products" and "If you have one of the products listed above, you should not eat it. Please keep the product and contact our Consumer Care team to arrange return and reimbursement."
