A man has been arrested following a number of violent incidents in Tallaght.

Some cars were stolen and a man was injured during the course of events which began early this morning

At around 6am, a man in his 30s had a fight with his girlfriend in Brookview. He then took her car, crashed it, stole another car and crashed that one too.

It’s understood the suspect then made his way into the Watergate housing estate in Tallaght where he broke into a house. He punched a man with the end of what appeared to be a machine gun and stole his car.

The same suspect is then believed to have stolen two more cars on the Naas road before Gardai spotted him heading into the Citywest Shopping Centre.  The suspect jumped out of a car and a foot chase ensued across the shopping centre’s car park.

The man was eventually arrested and has been brought to Tallaght Garda Station for questioning. A firearm has also been recovered.
