Limerick City and County Council have urged the public to exercise extreme caution along the Shannon estuary and city quays during Storm Barra.

Met Éireann has issued an orange wind warning for Limerick from 6am tomorrow, for 24 hours.

The Orange Wind Warning will also include counties Clare, Limerick, Waterford, Galway, Mayo, and Wexford

That will also apply to Dublin, Louth, Wicklow and East Meath from 8 am.

Limerick Warning

It's forecast high winds of 65 to 80km/h, that could see severe gusts get up to 130km/h and possibly higher at the coast.

The Councils have also warned that power outages are likely.

That's combined with a "significant possibility" of coastal flooding thanks to high waves, heavy rain and a storm surge.

Meanwhile, Met Eireann has issued a Red Wind Warning for Cork and Kerry tomorrow.

That will come into place at 6am, and runs until 9pm.

Elsewhere, there is a yellow alert across the rest of the country.

Secure Trampolines And Christmas Decorations

"People in the affected areas should prepare appropriately now for the anticipated conditions" a spokesperson for the two Councils said.

They've begun acting now themselves, and have installed flood defences along the estuary and city quays.

Workers are putting defences up at Askeaton and Foynes with more in the city and along the Three Bridges route.

The public should secure anything at their homes that could be disturbed by high winds.

Some examples of those include trampolines, Christmas decorations and bins.
