You may no longer have to pay fines for returning library books late.

They may be scrapped completely under new plans to get more people to borrow books.

It's all because of the new National Library Strategy 2018-2022, which wants to get rid of the charges which are around €0.05 a day.

The 4 year strategy is also calling for more user-friendly hours, extended access to digital resources and increased investment in library buildings.

The plans will be published in the coming weeks, which will outline the policies for public libraries throughout the country for the next 4 years.
