Leaving Certificate oral examinations could be facing a date change in future.

School Principals are backing calls for them to take place over the Easter break.

It's over concerns of a shortage of state examiners.

The National Association of Principals and Deputy Principals is backing the idea.

Director Clive Byrne says the way exams are run needs to be looked at "If we were starting the exam system we mightn't orgnanise them as we do at the moment. The teacher is obviously paid their salary as a teacher. They're paid an allowance for doing the oral exams and the state exams commission also pays for a substitute. So it's being paid for on the triple."

Mr. Byrne believes the entire system may need to change.

"I wouldn't imagine that people would be willing to give up their entire Easter vacation. One of the other things might be to look at re-imagining how we do the orals and how we structure the orals"

This year the Easter Break runs from March 26th to April 6th. Oral tests are due to start on April 9th and last until the 20th. Would you rather have your break to study or get the tests out of the way sooner?
