South Dublin County Council says plans to build 42 houses on the grounds of a football club are at a very early stage.

Knocklyon United rents pitches in Ballycullen Park on a short-term, but rolling basis and fears the development would cost its 400 young players their space.

The club's Chairman, Donal Skelly, supports the construction of social housing, but believes the location is wrong:

"We use this pitch for our smaller children, we have this pitch and the top pitch here so every weekend we have 450 children between the ages of seven and 12 use this facility plus we have the visiting team."
