Artist Kevin Sharkey wants to run for president, and be the first black President of Ireland.

The Donegal man says the office of president should do more for homelessness.

He also believes we need to take more control of our borders and immigration.

The 56 year old, who in recent years was homeless for a period himself, hopes to speak to TDs and county councils and get their support for his nomination.

He hopes to stand as an independent candidate, with no affiliation to any political party.

Current president Michael D Higgins has been in office since November 2011 and it is yet to be confirmed if he intends to run for another seven-year term.
