The decryption key for the HSE cyber-attack is undergoing a detailed assessment.

So that's to determine whether it's safe to use.

The Government insists it hasn't paid a ransom to the cyber criminals who hacked into the health service's network last week.

The Key Might Not Be A "Rapid Fix"

The Government says this decryption key arrived "unprompted" yesterday evening.

Justice Minister Heather Humphreys explains that the National Cyber Security Centre is examining the key.

"It may support the ongoing work to repair the HSE's IT systems."

"However we've to be cautious in any expectations that this will work as a rapid fix."

The Government claims no ransom has or will be paid.

It also says it didn't engage with criminals.

So why did they hand over they key?

Cyber Experts say the criminals may have provided it, as they've annoyed the hacking community.

This cyber attack has drawn a lot of attention to the issue.

Junior Minister Ossian Smyth says it doesn't mean the data won't be published on the dark web.

So that's why an injunction has been secured.

"This isn't aimed at the criminals."

But he says, "this is aimed at any organisation in Ireland, a website or a media organisation that found some information online, and was re-publishing it."

"To tell people, look this is what we found, then as a result people seeing their information online."

The Government says it's priority is to ensure a speedy resumption of all health care services.
