An emergency summit on the homelessness issue has been called by the Housing Minister.

The heads of all the local authorities around the country, along with their housing personell will meet with Minister Eoghan Murphy in the Custom House in Dublin on Friday.

It comes after the deaths of three homeless people in Dublin, Cork and Kildare last week.

Stats from Fingal County Council estimate €230m will be spent on housing by the end of next year - more than double its original budget.

CEO of the Council Paul Reid has told the Irish Times that families are seeking help faster than homes can be provided.
