Government Needs To Boost CyberSecurity Spending 10-Fold

Meanwhile the Government should be spending 10 times what it currently is on cyber security.

Cyber security experts have told an Oireachtas Committee that Ireland needs to raise its game.

Following the HSE's cyber attack, the Government has faced criticism for the €5 million annual budget allocated to the National Cyber Security Centre.

Pat Larkin, CEO of cyber security firm Ward Solutions outlined how much should be invested by Government.

"I did a projection on a per capita basis, just compared with the UK."

"It will have spent about 2.9 billion on their national security from 2018 to 2023."

"So on a simple per capita basis, that would suggest we should be spending €50 million plus."
