What Can We Expect On Friday? A Guide To Restrictions Easing

The government will go ahead with easing restrictions on Friday. 

Despite rising Covid-19 numbers, most restrictions will ease this week as planned.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin gave a press conference today along with Tánaiste Leo Varadkar and Minister Eamonn Ryan.

"We have seen a worsening of the situation," Martin said. "These figures are a cause of concern."

"The vaccination programme and the use of covid passes is how we've been able to open the hospitality sector so far."

The following was announced for Friday: 

  • Mask wearing, social distancing and Digital Covid Certs will remain until February 2022.
  • Nightclubs will reopen with the use of Covid Certs.
  • There will be no capacity limits on weddings or religious services.
  • There will be no capacity limits on indoor concerts or theatre.
  • There will be no capacity limits on outdoor sporting events.
  • Booster vaccines will be given to those over the age of 60 (Pfizer).
  • Vaccine passports won't be needed for outdoor events.
  • 10 people can dine indoors at the one table, up from 6.
  • Close contacts will now receive antigen tests.
  • Pubs will be allowed to have later opening hours.
  • All business to reopen subject to Covid Certs and social distancing where applicable.
