Gardaí will soon be subject to random drug testing.
The anti-corruption unit says it's putting members on notice, that the misuse of drugs is not tolerated.
Gardaí Who Fail Tests May Face Prosecution
It will take at least six months to put the policy into action.
However all Garda personnel will be independently drugs tested.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Clavin says any Gardaí who test positive for drugs may face dismissal and possible prosecution.
"It totally conflicts with the job we do."
Adding to that Pat says, "it exposes people to organised criminals."

Gardaí also launched a professional boundaries and abuse of power for sexual gain policy today.
That's combined with an overarching anti-corruption policy.
Chief Supt Joe O'Leary (above) is head of the anti corruption unit says the issues are minor.
"We're not saying for one moment that there's a series of corruption in the organisation."
"But of course we acknowledge that a minority don't reach the standards that they should."
