Gardaí assaulted

Three Gardaí were injured in two separate attacks in Dublin yesterday.

They happened in Rathmines and in the Dublin 8 area.

At around 11:45pm last night a car failed to stop for Gardaí and a car chase took place from Cuffe Street to St Luke's Avenue in Dublin 8.

The Garda helicopter was deployed.

As a garda approached the car, it reversed and the Garda suffered minor injuries.

He was treated at St James Hospital and later released.

Two men, one in his late 20s and one in his early 30s were arrested as a result.

A small quantity of ecstasy tablets, MDMA and drug equipment was found.

Separately, earlier yesterday two gardaí were hospitalised after being assaulted while arresting a man in the capital.

It happened when they responded to reports of a man with an imitation gun in Rathmines yesterday evening, shortly before 6pm.

They were both taken to St Vincent's Hospital with minor injuries, and investigations are ongoing.
