Many returned home from abroad to work in the frontline.

Talks are ongoing today between unions representing frontline healthcare workers and the HSE.

They'll meet at the Workplace Relations Commission to discuss rewards for the pandemic.

Ireland's healthcare staff were at the frontline of the Covid-19 virus outbreak.

Unions, including SIPTU and Forsa, are asking for additional leave, vouchers or cash compensation.

The pandemic was difficult for most, and IMO President Ina Kenny says frontline workers made additional sacrifices.

The meeting is due to take place until lunchtime today.
