Britain's Prince William's called the racist abuse of England footballers on social media 'abhorrent.'

He's also called for those responsible to be held accountable.

The Police say they are investigating posts that the players received after the Euro 2020 final defeat.

Manager Gareth Southgate says his players don't deserve to be on the receiving end of such offensive messages.

"For some of them to be abused is unforgivable really."

"I think we've been a beacon of light, in bringing people together."

"For people to be able to relate to the national team."

"The national team stands for everybody."

Neville Unhappy With Boris Johnson

Meanwhile, Instagram has quickly deleted rule-breaking comments and accounts.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson says those responsible should be 'ashamed of themselves'.

However, the former England defender Gary Neville says the government hasn't done enough

"Gareth Southgate and the players a few weeks ago, for about five days on the trot."

"They told us they were taking the knee to promote equality, and it was against racism."

"The Prime Minister told us that it was okay to boo those players."

"It starts at the very top!"
