An emergency meeting of the UN Security Council will take place this afternoon.

That comes after days of violence between Israeli forces and Palestinians.

35 Palestinians are dead - and five people in Israel are dead.

Hundreds of people have suffered injuries.

Minister Condemns Violence On Both Sides

Some reports in Israel suggest the Irish ambassador to Israel has been called to a meeting.

That's to discuss comments made by Minister Simon Coveney.

The Minister has condemned the attacks from both sides and is calling for a peaceful resolution to the violence.

However Israeli authorities claim Hamas have fired 1,000 rockets since Monday evening.

But Hamas says it's only responding to Israeli airstrikes.

Palestinian Osama Suhuh's calling for help to stop the violence.

"We demand the international community, the Arab and Islamic nations to intervene urgently."

Adding to that, he says he doesn't want them just to condemn the Israelis, but to take action.

"To put an end to the Israeli aggression against defenceless civilians, who are powerless."

Civilian Casualties From Rockets & Strikes

Finally, Bel Trew is a journalist with the Independent.

She's based in Israel.

Bel says it's difficult to figure out where the air strikes and rockets are coming from.

However she's sure that civilians are the casualty:

"Ultimately the truth is, and there's one truth here."

"It's that civilians are the ones paying the price."

"You know, families, women, children who've been injured, who are scared, who are being killed."

Finally, Bel says, "that is the truth that cannot be altered."

The UN says there's a risk of a "full-scale war" amid growing tension between Israel and Palestinian militants
