An elderly Cork woman who was threatened at knifepoint in her brother's house by an intruder has been speaking of her ordeal.

Investigating Gardai are appealing for witnesses after the incident involving the brother and sister on Boyce's Street in Gurranabraher shortly after 7.30am yesterday.

Cork's 96FM and C103's Mairead Twohig reports:

"He had a knife up to us."

"A long knife, to my throat."

"He wanted money off us."

84 year old Mary O'Halloran called into her brother Gerry's home yesterday.

"I go up on a Saturday morning and a Sunday morning."

"So I get his stuff ready for him - with his home help."

She says she couldn't get in, "the fella had the door locked."

The intruder left the scene on foot with an amount of cash.

Gerry and Mary were treated at the scene for non life threatening injuries - before being taken to the Mercy Hospital for observation.

Witness Appeal

Lord Mayor Cllr Colm Kelleher is urging witnesses to come forward to Gurranabraher Garda Station:

"This is absolutely deplorable."

"A 79 year old in his own home threatened at knife point, and his sister also threatened at knife point."

Local Councillor Ken O'Flynn added this "makes everyone fearful" that it could be them next.
