Hey, if we can do it, then apes can too!
In an effort to increase the breeding chances at a Dutch Zoo, keepers have organised a mating facility for female orangutans in what is being dubbed 'Tinder for orangutans'.
It sees a female being shown pictures of their male counterparts from all over the world on a tablet, and the researchers at the Apenheul Primate Park in the town of Apeldoorn can judge whether they like what they see or not by their reaction.
A more aggressive reaction would traditionally be more of a 'swipe left' response, while if they give more of a 'neutral' response, then that indicates there would be an interest there.
"Often, animals have to be taken back to the zoo they came from without mating," said behavioural biologist at the zoo Thomas Bionda to Dutch broadcaster NOS, according to the Guardian.
He added that it's not as simple as a swipe left or right: "Emotion is of huge evolutionary importance. If you don’t interpret an emotion correctly in the wild, it can be the end of you."
