Nursing homes in North County Dublin received over 1,700 Christmas cards this week.

The Christmas Cards of Kindness initiative saw young people in Fingal hand make messages.

Twelve nursing homes received the letters, as well as two meals on wheels services.

The initiative was set up to help ease the loneliness some elderly people experienced as a result of the pandemic.

Age Friendly's Louise Edmonds said: “The project provided an opportunity to help seniors who may be isolated due to COVID-19 to feel connected."

Sinead Wiley from Fingal County Council said they were "overwhelmed by the response".

She also thanked all who took part in the initiative.
