The Department of Health has reported 575 new cases of Covid-19 in Ireland.

73% percent of today's cases were identified in people under the age of 45 years old.

The median age is 30 years old.

Most of today's cases were identified in Dublin, where there are 232 new cases.

Elsewhere, there are 48 new cases in Meath, 41 in Tipperary, 38 in Kildare and 30 in Galway.

The remaining 186 cases are spread across 20 other counties.

Longford is the only county in Ireland with no new cases of the virus.

Meanwhile, there have been 25 additional hospitalisations in the past twenty-four hours.

In total, there are 360 Covid-19 patients in hospitals - 85 of whom are in intensive care.

As of last Friday, 163,812 people have received both doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Vaccines Are Under Ongoing Monitoring, Says NPHET

NPHET has commented on the complications of the vaccine rollout in recent days.

Ireland has paused the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine, as it investigates reports of blood clouts being discovered in people who've received the jab.

Chair of National Immunisation Advisory Committee, Prof Karina Butler, says the monitoring of Ireland's vaccines is ongoing.

"We will continue to monitor the situation relating to COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca," she said.

"If we can be satisfied that these events are coincidental and not caused by this vaccine, we will reassess the situation and our recommendations."

Meanwhile Member of the National Covid-19 GP Liaison Committee Dr Ray Walley said every medicine, including vaccines, has side effects.

"I want to reassure those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine in this country that there are, and continues to be, enormous benefits in the vaccine programme."

He said the benefits are based on evidence relating to all the vaccines in Ireland, including AstraZeneca.
