The Department of Health is reporting 448 new cases of Covid-19 in the country,  with two additional deaths.

These two deaths bring Ireland's death toll from Covid-19 to 5000.

Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, has expressed particular concern about the situation in Dublin.

"We have some concerns in particular about Dublin, while its incidence is not the highest in the country... incidence has taken off there versus the rest of the country over the past number of days [...] And obviously, given the population size in Dublin, if that continues it will drive the national picture."

It is not all doom and gloom in Ireland as our death toll passes a tragic milestone.

A plan that would accelerate the Covid vaccine rollout has been submitted to the government.

It takes on board the latest recommendations from NIAC and would see the completion of the vaccination programme brought forward by a number of weeks.

As part of the proposals, 18 to 49-year-olds could 'opt in' to receive the Astra Zeneca or Johnson & Johnson vaccine, rather than wait for an mRNA vaccine.

HSE CEO Paul Reid says it would mean all vaccines could be administered in a number of settings including pharmacies:

"It does facilitate us bringing forward the completion of the vaccination programme by a period of a few weeks[...] firstly it utilises Jansen and AstraZenica supplies [...] and to start potentially vaccinating a lot of those people in July that would've waited longer"

The HSE's online covid vaccine dashboard is back on line for the first time since the cyber attack.

It shows that up to Tuesday June 29th, 4.1 million doses have been administered.

Of those 2.4 million are first doses, while almost 1.6 million people have received their second jab.

Just over 72,000 single shot Johnson and Johnson vaccines have also been administered.
