97% of people believe investigating sexual offences should be a top priority for Gardaí.

It's after the force released its latest public attitudes survey for 2019.

Majority Of People Trust Gardaí

6 thousand people took part in the Gardai's public attitudes survey.

Which found 90% of the people trust the force.

55% say they don't fear becoming a victim of crime, which is up from 49 percent in 2018.

While 28% say they worried about being a victim of either personal injury, theft or property damage.

There were also increases in the number of people who felt Gardai were community focused, friendly and helpful and modern and progressive.

Sexual Offences Should Be Top Priority

People listed sexual offences as the top priority for Gardaí investigating crimes.

So that was followed by human trafficking, illegal weapons and robbery.

However, over half of people say a Garda presence was not enough in their area.

But is still a drop from 61% in 2018.
