More than 220 people are dead and dozens are missing after a tsunami hit part of Indonesia.

The wave was caused by a volcano, and swept away homes on the Sunda Strait.

Many of the victims had been attending a concert during a busy holiday weekend.

The Irish embassy in Indonesia says its not aware of Irish citizens affected by the tsunami from contacts to date, but they are following it closely with authorities.

Indonesia - one of the most disaster-prone nations on earth - straddles the Pacific Ring of Fire where tectonic plates collide, resulting in a large portion of the world's volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.
