High School Musical: The Musical: The Series: Season 2

The highly anticipated trailer for season two of Disney's High School Musical series is finally here.

Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett return in their roles as onscreen lovers Nini and Ricky.

Season 1

The Disney+ series dropped late 2019 and became a massive success.

It follows the story of a group of teenagers who set out to put on a performance of High School Musical as their school production.

Their particular high school however, also happens to be the same school the original HSM movies were shot in.

Olivia plays Nini in the movie - a musical theater enthusiast who's cast in the lead role as Gabriella Montez.

While Joshua plays Ricky, Nini's ex boyfriend who sets off on a mission to win her back.

His plan? Audition for High School Musical and get cast as the male lead, Troy Bolton.

Season 2

At the end of season one, Nini and Ricky finally reunite, and fans are dying to see what's next for the couple.

In the second installment, the gang are gearing up for the spring musical.

And Miss Jenn reckons they should perform the second HSM movie.

She later decides to enter her students into the Alan Menken awards for musical theatre.

It's after she ran into a fellow musical theatre coach who disparaged her students and their talents.

They'll be performing Beauty and the Beast.

Meanwhile, Ricky and Nini's relationship appears to be on the rocks again.

She's shown telling him, "You're going to make this long distance thing look easy."

It turns out she got into the, "Youth Actors Conservatory."

"It's a huge deal to me but honestly Ricky's a huge deal to me too," she said.

But the long distance takes its toll on the young couple, and Ricky is struggling without her.

He Face Times her, "Hard to picture doing a show without you."

Joshua & Olivia

The trailer release comes months after Olivia dropped her debut single Drivers License, which many believe she wrote about Joshua.

Basically, it was speculated (but never confirmed) that the onscreen lovers were romantically involved in real life.

Rumours later spread that the pair had called it quits.

Fans became convinced of this when he started posting TikTok videos with fellow artist Sabrina Carpenter.

Now, Olivia has released Drivers License which is all about a failed relationship.

Just when we thought the drama couldn't get any more intense, Sabrina released a song of her own.
