Netflix have cast 11-year-old Dublin girl Alisha Weir as the lead in their musical adaptation of Matilda.
The young actress will star opposite Emma Thompson and Lashana Lynch in the film.

Alisha's family and friends are so proud of her accomplishment.
Her drama teacher and fellow actor Johnny Ward shared his delight in a tweet last week.
'MASSIVE NEWS !!!!!!!!' He wrote.
'Absolutely over the moon to finally announce that my Drama Student Alisha Weir has landed the title role of "Matilda" in the Roald Dahl Netflix production of Matilda!!!!'

You might recognise Alisha from her performance on The Late Late Toy Show in 2017.
She performed a beautiful rendition of True Colours alongside the Holy Family Junior Deaf Choir.

Netflix's musical adaptation
Netflix's upcoming musical adaptation will see Emma Thompson play Miss Trunchbull.
While 007 actress Lashana Lynch will play the lovely Miss Honey.
Matthew Warchus is set to direct.

The film's official logline reads, 'An adaptation of the Tony and Olivier award-winning musical.'
'Matilda tells the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a sharp mind and a vivid imagination, dares to take a stand to change her story with miraculous results.'
In a statement, Warchus said, 'Matilda will be an imaginative and fresh retelling of the award-winning musical, Matilda, featuring talented young newcomers, alongside established stars.'
'I look forward to introducing this beloved and powerful story to a new generation of fans around the world.'
