Lizzie McGuire
Hilary Duff announced last month that the Disney+ reboot of Lizzie McGuire won't be going ahead.
Her onscreen family - Robert Carradine, Hallie Todd and Jake Thomas - have remained quiet, until now.
In a new interview with Vice, they voiced their frustration.
What happened?
But before we get to that, here's a quick recap to bring you up to scratch.
In late 2019, Disney+ revealed they were working on a new version of the hit Disney Channel show.
After getting all our hopes up, Disney moved away from the project in January 2020.
It's believed there was a disagreement between original show creator Terri Minsky and Disney.
Sources told Variety at the time that Minsky and lead actress Hilary Duff wanted a more adult version of the show.
Disney were initially on board with their approach but executives weren't happy with the content when on set.
They want the show to be more family friendly.
As a result, Variety say Minsky and her team were fired from the production.
A Disney spokesperson released a statement to the publication at the time:
'After filming two episodes, we concluded that we need to move in a different creative direction and are putting a new lens on the show.'

Hilary pleads with Disney
Taking to Instagram, Hilary pleaded with Disney to move the show to Hulu.
That way, fans will get to see how her character has evolved from a teen to an adult.
Disney made a similar move for the Love, Victor show, so Hilary believed the same could be done for Lizzie.

Unfortunately, an agreement couldn't be made and Hilary announced the show wouldn't be going ahead.
She said, 'I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work, but sadly & despite everyone's best efforts, it isn't going to happen.'
'I'm very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars just didn't align.'

In a brand new interview with Vice this week, some of the other Lizzie McGuire stars have been sharing their opinions.
The publication spoke to Sam actor Robert Carradine, Jo actress Hallie Todd and Matt actor Jake Thomas.

Robert Carradine
Robert Carradine said he was confused by what happened.
He recalled, 'When we did the read-through of the first two scripts, there were literally three rows of chairs and in each chair was some kind of a Disney executive.'
'I mean, there were 25 of them in there. And they were laughing their a**es off.'

'Every single step of that trajectory had to be greenlit by somebody who's high up in the organization.'
'So, you go to all that trouble and they decide at the last minute, out of the blue, that it needs to be more kid-friendly?'
'I don't get that,' Robert admitted.

Hallie Todd
Hallie found the entire situation, 'sad.'
She admitted, 'We had the best time when we got together for those two episodes.'
'It felt like no time had passed, except that all of a sudden these kids were adults.'

Hallie's convinced there's more to the story.
She added, 'It just seems ridiculous.'
'There's always more to it than you hear, and I certainly am not privy to those conversations in the back room.'

Jake Thomas
Jake, who's now 30-years-old, empathises with the fans who were looking forward to the show's return.
He said, 'Fans always tell me how watching the show was a staple of their childhood, and honestly, I was right there with them running to the TV every week to watch the latest episode.'

Jake continued, 'When I walked onto the set of the rebuilt McGuire house for the reboot, it felt like such an unreal homecoming, an overwhelming childhood nostalgia.'
'It saddens me greatly that the fans don't get to share in that feeling.'

Maybe some day we'll see the return of Lizzie McGuire, but it won't be happening any time soon.
