Hilary Duff has landed the lead role in the How I Met Your Mother spinoff series.

The Lizzie McGuire actress will play the new version of Ted Mosby in Hulu's How I Met Your Father.

HIMYM fans will be happy to hear the show's original creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, are involved in the project.

While Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who came up with the idea for the spinoff, will be running the show.

They'll serve as creators, writers and executive producers.

Hilary Duff's involvement

Hilary Duff will be playing Sophie, a mother who tells her son the story of how she met his father.

The plot according to Deadline reads, 'The story starts in 2021 where Sophie and her close-knit group of friends are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.'

Not only will Hilary star in the show, but she'll also act as a producer.

There have been numerous attempts to bring this spinoff series to life in the past, but none of them worked out, until now.

Hulu are involved and they've given the sequel series a 10-episode order.

The original show

The original series followed the story of Ted Mosby, an architect who tells his children the story of how he met their mother.

The whole show follows the journey up until Ted finally meets the mother of his children.

And it's made even better by the presence of his best friends: Lily, Marshall, Robin and Barney.

The original series came out in 2005 and featured an all-star cast.

Cobie Smulders, Josh Radnor, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segal and Alyson Hannigan all starred in the show.

It ran for a total of nine seasons.

A release date for How I Met Your Father hasn't been announced.
