Driving Test Top Tips

We're going to help you ace the Irish driving test with these driving test top tips.

It's probably one of the most daunting things you’ll ever do, but don't worry.

You got this!

Take a pre-test, or three

We can't recommend taking a pre-test highly enough.

Don't rock up to your test without having practised before-hand!

The pre-test is a chance to get any last-minute doubts out of your head.

Don't tell everyone the test date

Don’t broadcast your test date to friends and family.

If everyone around you knows your exact test date, it’ll just pile on the pressure and make you paranoid.

You don’t need all that extra stress!

Lessons will take a chunk out of your bank account so get the most out of them.

Take any chance you can to get out in your car and practise what you learned after each lesson.

Ignore everyone's horror stories

You'll hear plenty of exaggerated stories about failed tests and cranky testers, but ignore them!

Don’t let your mates, family members and colleagues wind you up.

Get your timing right.

Be smart about when you choose to sit your test.

Try to book it at a quiet time of the week so that the roads aren’t packed with rush hour traffic.

Clear your calendar for that week as much as possible and focus on passing.

Don't worry about the silence

It's rough sitting in a car beside a complete stranger who’s giving you directions.

During your test, there will be some awkward silences.

This is perfectly normal and happens to everyone.

Just blank it out and concentrate on your driving. Everything else will fall into place.

Get a good night's sleep the night before

Get your eight hours in the night before.

Wake up with plenty of time and try to remain as relaxed as possible.

Good luck!
