17-year old, Sean Hyland, from North Dublin got the better of 16 of Ireland’s best street dancers on Friday night and will now represent Ireland at the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Finals in October!
Ballymun man Sean Hyland reigned supreme at the Red Bull Dance Your Style National Final in the Ambassador Theatre on Friday night. In front of a capacity crowd, the young man from North Dublin stole the show with an electric display and will now travel to LA in October for a crack at the world title.
Dance fans from across the country landed into the sold-out Ambassador Theatre on Friday, with 16 of Ireland’s best street dancers there to battle it out on the night. There was much expectation on the shoulders of Keelan Reynolds, with many expecting the 2024 champion to defend his crown in style.
And what a show Reynolds put on in the early stages, cruising through to the final in typically impressive fashion. The final proved to be a family affair with Reynolds meeting Hyland, the younger brother of his girlfriend Cody, who brought a fresh energy and infectious confidence to proceedings all evening.
Just 17 years of age, and in his debut year in the competition, Hyland’s mixed style of hip-hop and locking proved popular with a vocal crowd in the Ambassador; but there was nothing to split the pair at first, with the crowd demanding a rematch.
Hyland seized his moment, delivering a bold and brave display that brought the crowd to their feet to scoop the big prize.
Commenting on the win, Hyland said: “I’m overwhelmed! I never thought I’d be able to experience anything like this.”
“There were so many good dancers competing. To end up battling Keelan, my brother-in-law, it’s surreal… but it’s an amazing experience, and I’m absolutely buzzing to go and represent my country in Los Angeles.”
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity now awaits Hylands when he competes in the Red Bull Dance Your Style World Final on Saturday October 11th.
