SPIN 1038 is proud to take part in One Day: Many Voices.
On September 24th, SPIN 1038 will be dedicating a whole day of programming to celebrating and uplifting the voices of young people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Throughout the day, you'll get to hear stories you might not normally hear on the radio. From wheelchair users and second-generation immigrants, to LGBTQ+ young people, and girls being encouraged to find their place in STEM.
Listen out for an exclusive interview with Conor McAuley on Fully Charged. Conor is a disability rights activist and wheelchair user who uses his platform to raise awareness of accessibility. He’ll be talking about his own experiences, from navigating public transport to finding ways to make everyday activities more accessible.
And our presenters will be getting involved too. Reporter Ella Anderson, who is leading SPIN’s content for the day, will be putting Emma, Dave and Fiona through a series of real-life scenarios around diversity and inclusion. From accidentally getting someone’s pronouns wrong, to knowing how to ask a disabled person if they need help. They’ll be finding out what to do, what not to do, and how small changes can make a difference.
There’ll be plenty more stories across the day too.
We’ll hear from Belong To about its new youth space for LGBTQ+ young people in Dublin, and from Trans Pride organisers about finding community and inspiration.
Listen in to a chat with Precious, who was born in Ireland to Nigerian parents, to hear what it’s like growing up between two cultures, and how she navigates questions about where she’s from and where she belongs.
We’ll also be looking at the barriers young people can face in education and work. Exchange House will tell us about supporting young Travellers through education and training, while iWish will explore why some young women are still being put off STEM careers and how seeing women already working in those fields can help change that.
At 1:30pm, all stations participating in One Day: Many Voices will come together for a special shared piece of audio, taking over the airwaves to highlight the importance of inclusion and equity in radio.
Then, to wrap up the day, Ella will join Pete and Pádraig for a One Day: Many Voices quiz. Testing how much they’ve picked up throughout the day and putting some of the facts and stories they’ve heard to the test.
