Lil Nas X Admits He 'Planned To Die With The Secret' That He's Gay

Lil Nas X on coming out as gay

In a new interview, American rapper Lil Nas X has opened up about his experience of coming out as gay.

He told The Guardian that he initially, 'planned to die with the secret.'

However, that all changed when he became the artist he is today.

Lil Nas X came out as gay through his track c7osure on the final day of LGBTQ Pride last June.

He tweeted, 'some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more.'

'but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.'

Speaking to The Guardian, he revealed, 'The honest truth is, I planned to die with the secret.'

The artist who's birth name is Montero Lamar Hill, added, 'But that changed when I became Lil Nas X.'

From his experience, Nas said he, '100% wants to represent the LGBT community.'

The rapper empathises with those still struggling to come out.

He said, 'I don't want to encourage them to do something they don't 100% want to do.'

'Especially in, like, middle school or high school. Because it's just super hard.'

Nas explained that it was much easier for him to come out when he did because, 'I'm not depending on anybody.'

'There's no one who's going to kick me out of the house - nobody to start treating me shi**y.'

Whereas there are plenty of young people who don't have it figured out yet and are still living with their parents.

Family

The rapper went on to discuss how his own family reacted to his coming out.

He said, 'It’s not something that’s ever brought up or we speak about. We’re quiet on it.'

'Nobody’s like, 'Oh, you got a boyfriend?''

Nas has a family of seven brothers and sisters who he doesn't speak to much.

He admitted during the interview, 'I should talk to them more.'

When asked about his relationship with his mother, Nas said, 'People have to be willing to help themselves first before you can help them.'
