Hugo Hammond & his, 'free holiday'

Love Island's Hugo Hammond was dumped from the villa on last night's episode.

In his exit interview, he was told some viewers accused him of going on the show for a, 'free holiday.'

But he insists he was really trying to meet someone.

Hugo said, 'I was trying! I tried really hard.'

'You can’t make girls fall for you if it’s not reciprocated and vice versa.'

'I did try my best, but obviously it didn’t work out,' he added.

Leaving the villa

When asked how he felt about leaving the villa, he said he's, 'obviously gutted.'

He said, 'I’ve made some really good friends in there, I’d almost call them family now.'

'At the same time, I definitely feel my time had come.'

He continued, 'I leave really happy that I’ve had an amazing experience, but at the same time, sad to leave everyone.'

'Ultimately people are there for love. And that was probably the one thing that was missing from my experience.'

'Unfortunately, I couldn’t find it in there. But I haven’t given up. I’ll still be on the search.'

When asked to describe his Love Island experience, he said it was, 'Just amazing.'

'To spend a summer in the sunshine with a load of great people that I’ve met along the way has been fantastic.'

'The only thing that was missing was that romantic side. It was a real shame.'

'It didn’t work out for one reason or another'

He went on, 'But you can’t force love, it has to be reciprocated.'

'For me, I didn’t want to compromise,' Hugo said, 'I sort of knew what I was looking for. I didn’t want to settle.'

'I had the opportunities there, it didn’t work out for one reason or another.'

Hugo also touched on his friendship with Chloe, 'She’s a gorgeous girl and we get along so well.'

'So I could see myself being with ‘a Chloe’ for example. But I did ask the question at one point.'

'I did and obviously we were too far in then in the friendship place and I wouldn’t want to jeopardise that as well.'

Love Island

'She was there for me a lot of times when I needed her and I think that was reciprocated and I was there when she needed me.'

'The ‘one that got away’ is going to be thrown around, but I wouldn’t say so.'

When asked how he feels about her decision to recouple with Toby, Hugo said, 'If Chloe’s happy and Toby’s happy then I’m over the moon.'

'I want the best for Tobes'

He continued, 'I don’t hold grudges or anything like that.'

'My speech that came out of me at the fire pit, it wasn’t planned as I genuinely thought he was going to pick Abi.'

'I want the best for Tobes,' Hugo insisted.

Hugo Hammond

'When they’re together you can see how happy they are and they’re in their own little world.'

'They look like they absolutely love it,' Hugo admitted.

As for his own romance with Amy, it doesn't look like they'll be taking it into the real world.

Hugo and Amy

He said, 'I think with myself and Amy we kind of got back to the main villa and it was a bit like a holiday romance; you go away and you think it’s amazing and then you come back to the real life and the cracks almost start to show a little bit.'

When asked if they'll be going on a date outside the villa, Hugo said, 'I don’t think so.'

'I think she will reciprocate that,' he added.

'I’m sure we’ll go out in groups and whatnot, but I can’t imagine we’ll be going out for a dinner anytime soon.'

Hugo was also asked what's next for him, and he said he wants to, 'stay involved with kids sport.'

Hugo Hammond

He said, 'Obviously, I’ve just finished my teacher training year, which I loved.'

'I don’t have a job lined up. I’d love to stay involved with kids sport, health and fitness, young adults in any way I could.'

'Sport and physical activity is so important for people and it’s often overlooked.'

'It’s so good for us, gets our endorphins going, it’s great for our mental health.'

'I’d love to keep promoting physical activity and sport and be an advocate for that.'

'I don’t know what that looks like, but maybe online. Joe Wicks has smashed it. It’d be cool to do something like that.'
