Ariana Grande wrote three different versions of thank u, next in case she married Pete Davidson.

Ariana Grande revealed the news in an interview on the Zach Sang Show.

thank u, next is one of the biggest hits out at the moment.

What makes it so unique is that Grande actually goes through her ex's by name in the song.

The singer was engaged to comedian Pete Davidson around the time she was writing it.

She said their relationship was 'up and down and on and off' at the time.

'I didn't know what was gonna happen.'

Ariana had a decision to make.

She admits that the decision to name-call in the song was difficult.

'I understand that, to a lot of people, I'm not a real person.'

As she goes on, she gets quite emotional, 'I'm like tearing up. It's real s**t to me. It is real life.'

She says she understands it's easy for fans to see her 'as a song or a picture or a thing that kind of exists in their head.'

It seems Grande wants people to understand that she is only human.

Talking about her ex's in the song she said, 'I've spent a lot of time with each of those people...'

'It was scary to put in a song.'

The Other Versions.

Ariana says the other versions she created are way 'less direct.'

'I think I said, "They say I'm too young, I got too many boyfriends." I was just talking about what people say about me.'

'So it still was like, okay, I'm embracing my mistakes and what I've done and everything that's contributed to who I am, but it was just less direct.'

'And everyone, including me, was kind of like, "This is not the version." But I was also trying to be protective.'

She was worried about what kind of reaction the song would get.

I think it's evident she had nothing to worry about, it was an absolute hit.

'My mom was like, "That's just the best song I've ever heard in my life".'

'That song is for my mom's closure, and also a thank you to her for helping me through a lot of this shit.'
