Miss America is trying to move away from the 'beauty pageant' title.
The swimsuit and the evening wear rounds have been banned in a bid to make the event less sexist.
President Donald Trump is in charge of the Miss Universe pageant and US Journalist Terry Sheridan hopes the latest changes to the US competition may put pressure on him to follow suit.
Mr Sheridan said, "If the Miss America pageant is successful come this fall - then absolutely - if their ratings all of a sudden shoot up because people are tuning in, you're gonna see some change. However, I think there's part of the population that like to tune in and see pretty women in bathing suits".
Miss America began nearly 100 years ago in Atlantic City as a bathing suit contest.
