The Foreign Affairs Minister says he's very concerned about new rules for students applying for J1 visas.

The restrictions will require all social media accounts of an applicant to be set to public, so they can have five years of content vetted by the US authorities.

Simon Harris has asked his Department to engage with the US embassy to provide as much advice to students as possible over the coming weeks.

Describing the move as one which has caused deep concern, the Tánaiste says he intends to raise the issue with the new US ambassador when he takes up the post.
