RTÉ has announced Ryan Tubridy is to step down from the Late Late Show at the end of the season.

The 49-year-old will present his final show on the 26th of May.

In a statement this morning, Tubridy said he's "grateful for the loyalty" of viewers over the years, and will "especially miss the annual chaos of The Toy Show."

"It has been a privilege to host the national institution that is The Late Late Show for the last fourteen years.

I will continue on the radio show which I love and will talk about other projects in the future that will embrace my love of books, history and Ireland but that's for another day. For now, we have exciting plans for the remaining shows this season. Stay tuned!"

He finished his statement thanking his loved ones: "And finally, to my family who stood by me every day of every week, year in, year out. To my daughters especially, they put up with so much and I am as grateful to them as I am awestruck by them."

An announcement on who is to take over will be made later in the summer.
