There are calls for more financial support and protection against AI for Irish artists.

Meanwhile, half of adults are subscribed to music streaming platforms like Spotify or Apple Music.

The average Irish adult is spending €757 on music events, according to the Irish Music Rights Organisation.

It’s launched its Music Report which calls for more international marketing and robust protection for music creators.

AI misuse is also a topic of contention, according to IMRO CEO Victor Finn:

"They are using existing copyright music without seeking any authority of the owners of the music."

"They're using it to train their AI systems to generate computer generated music without sharing any of the ensuing revenue with the original copyright owners."

"We look forward to the Government implementing the new AI act."

The report recommends applying financial strategies seen in the film industry to the music sector and continuing to support grass roots venues.

However, two thirds of adults find the cost of tickets are a barrier to seeing their favourite artists.

Alan Kelly is chair of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on arts, he’d love to see new venues:

"In fairness I have to acknowledge the Minister's hinted towards that, especially regionally - we have loads of venues in Dublin."

He says "there's a cost to playing in Dublin, which isn't as much if you're playing down the country."

It’s set to be a blockbuster summer of gigs but this report shows most of us listen at home while doing housework or relaxing.
