Dublin Gardaí Carry Out Almost 500 Arrests In The Last Week

A senior Dublin Garda says she "hopes" increasing visibility re-assures locals.

Gardaí in Dublin carried out 494 arrests within the last week, and seized over €3.3 million worth of illegal drugs.

Officers say between Monday 21st August and Sunday 28th, over €70,000 in cash was also seized, and officers carried out over 1,500 patrols in Dublin.

Store Street gardaí on patrol saw a man robbing a phone from a tourist, and they arrested and charged him and returned the phone to the person.

Gardaí in Balbriggan spotted someone throwing away an object before trying to evade officers.

It turned out to be a knife, and the man was charged.

Dublin Assistant Commissioner, Angela Willis said it was "another busy week," in Dublin - but that isn't new for local Gardaí.

"While significant operational activity has been ongoing for some time, we hope that increasing our high visibility presence is providing reassurance to those living, working and visiting Dublin,” she continued.
