It's been a tough two years for all in hospitality.

An estimated 40 thousand vacancies have to be filled across the tourism sector.

That's according to Fáilte Ireland as many left due to irregular work during the pandemic.

For spells in 2020 and 2021, pubs, restaurants and hotels suffered from closures and curtailments.

Now, with restrictions lifting, thousands of jobs have to be filled ahead of a busy Spring and Summer period.

According to the Vintners Federation of Ireland - chefs are particularly in short supply.

Chief Executive Padraig Cribbin says the lack of staff working in hospitality is for a number of reasons.

"We've a lot of international workers that have gone back to their country of origin," he said.

"There's a lot of people who reassessed the kind of work life balance when we were closed."

"We can do a lot of things with the hospitality sector but social hours isn't something we can do a lot about."
