Most Ryanair flights have been grounded due to COVID-19

Ryanair says it plans to return to 40% of normal flight schedules from Wednesday July 1st, subject to government restrictions being lifted.

The airline will operate a daily flight schedule of almost 1,000 flights, restoring 90% of its pre-COVID-19 route network.

New measures will also be in place including fewer checked bags, wearing facemasks and temperature checks at the airport.

Queuing for toilets won't be allowed either, although access will be made available to individual passengers upon request.

Just 30 Ryanair flights have been operating between Ireland, the UK and Europe since mid-March, when restrictions were introduced.

“It is important for our customers that we return to some normal schedules from 1 July," says CEO Eddie Wilson.

"Governments around Europe have implemented a 4 month lockdown to limit the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

"After 4 months, it is time to get Europe flying again," he added.

"[This is] so we can reunite friends and families, allow people to return to work, and restart Europe’s tourism industry, which provides so many millions of jobs.

"With more than 6 weeks to go to 1st July, Ryanair believes this is the most practical date to resume normal flight schedules."

It's expected other airlines may follow as Europe slowly eases out of lockdown.
