Helen McEntee became first sitting Cabinet Minister to take maternity leave

The Justice Minister Helen McEntee has returned from maternity leave, and resumes her role from today.

The Meath East TD took maternity leave in April, giving birth to a baby boy a day later.

She was the first serving Cabinet Minister to take maternity leave, and her pregnancy led to widespread discussions about the lack of maternity leave provisions for public representatives.

Minister McEntee temporarily relinquished her Justice brief, becoming a member of cabinet without a portfolio.

Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys took over the Justice brief for the last six months - as well as remaining in her own positions.

However from today, Minister McEntee will resume her role.
