It's time to start re-opening Irish schools.

But children aren't due to go back until August under the government's roadmap.

However David Nabarro from the World Health Organisation thinks otherwise:

“So, I am thinking the time has come - especially as you have got the numbers of cases being suppressed."

"The time has come to gradually start reopening schools.”

"Not Enough Evidence" To Open Schools

The Department of Education has played down hopes of that happening.

Dr Cillian De Gascun, Director of the National Virus Laboratory says there's not enough evidence to do that yet.

"Based on the natural interactions that children have, they tend to be higher contact."

"They tend not to be as good as practicing hand hygiene and physical distancing.”
