All Russian football teams have been suspended from competitions run by FIFA and UEFA.

The governing bodies have made the joint decision in response to the country's invasion of Ukraine.

It means Russia will be excluded from the World Cup play-offs in March.

The Football Association of Ireland said earlier today that no Irish teams will play Russia in any code for the forseeable future.

This all comes as the Russian invasion of Ukraine is in its fifth day today.

Poland's FA had previously come out and said categorically that it would not fulfill World Cup Qualifiers with Russia.

It said that would still apply whether or not Russia's matches were played in neutral venues with no fans, banners, flags or anthems.

UEFA's also ended its partnership with Russian energy company Gazprom.

Olympics

The International Olympic Committee has recommended Russian and Belarusian athletes should be banned from competing at major competitions.

It says the move would "protect the integrity of global sports" following the invasion of Ukraine.

The IOC's also suggested, where that's not possible, competitors from Russian and Belarus should be classed as neutrals
