The organisers of the event, Festival Republic, says it will go ahead this September.

Organisers wrote to the Taoiseach last week with proposals of how it could take place at "full capacity" of 70,000 people - with reports that only vaccinated people would be allowed to attend.

Managing Director Melvin Benn told RTÉ News that he expected the greenlight for the festival, as he hadn't been told otherwise.

90% of the tickets are already sold, having originally gone on sale in March 2020 for last year's cancelled festival.

The rest of the tickets will go on sale at the end of the month when the festival line-up is announced.

A member of Laois County Council says Electric Picnic should not take place next month.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Paschal McEvoy says it can't be allowed to go ahead:

"I think it's absolutely too soon [...] to go from nothing to 70,000 in eight weeks it's definitely doable, it's not fair, it's not healthy and it's definitely not good for the people of Stradbally and surrounding areas."
