The Department of Health has been notified of 1,818 more coronavirus cases.

244 people are being treated for the virus in hospitals - down five from yesterday.

Of those, 52 are currently in ICU.

Dr Tony Holohan, the chief medical officer says over 12,000 cases have been reported in the past week, and the incidence rate is rising rapidly:

"The number of patients with COVID-19 in hospital and ICU has continued to increase in recent weeks.

"At the moment, 43% of patients with COVID-19 in ICU are aged less than 50 years of age.

"This is a stark reminder to all of us to continue to adhere to the public health guidance and to ensure to receive both doses of COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it offered."

HSE CEO Paul Reid has urged people who have not yet receivedHa vaccine to come forward.
