1,059 new cases of Covid 19 have been reported this evening, that's an increase of 11 on yesterday's figure.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre says there are 308 people in hospital - 59 patients being treated in ICU.

Those with weakened immune systems are being identified by health professionals to arrange a third dose of a Covid vaccine.

That includes those with certain underlying health conditions or undergoing specific treatments.

Patients who need an additional dose will be contacted by text with an appointment, they will not have to register or make contact with anyone in advance.

Specialist in Public Health Medicine in the HSE , Dr Aparna Keegan says work is underway to arrange appointments:

"They will be offered the Pfizer or the Moderna Vaccine for the additional dose, regardless of what vaccine they received previously.

"From this week if you've been recommended an additional dose of vaccine you will be contacted and offered an appointment, you do not need to request and appointment."
