SPIN's Sarina Bellissimo caught up with the cast of Netflix's Moxie for a chat this week.

She spoke to Amy Poehler, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and loads more.

Moxie

What is Moxie?

Moxie is a coming of age rage story about a group of high school teens.

Vivian (Hadley Robinson), is a seemingly shy 16-year-old, who has always preferred to keep her head down and fly under the radar.

Suddenly, the arrival of a new student (Alycia Pascual-Peña) forces her to examine the unchecked behavior of her fellow students.

Vivian realises she’s fed up and becomes inspired by her mother’s (Amy Poehler) rebellious past.

She anonymously publishes an underground zine called Moxie to expose bias and wrongdoing in her high school.

This unexpectedly sparks a movement.

Now at the center of a revolution, Vivian begins to forge new friendships with other young women and allies.

Reaching across the divide of cliques and clubs, the girls learn to navigate the highs and lows of high school together.

The movie is directed by Amy Poehler and based on the novel by Jennifer Mathieu.

Amy describes the movie as a, "coming of rage film," rather than a, "coming of age film."

And she explained why, "A lot of the film is about young women finding their voice."

"And figuring out what upsets them, what they're angry about and what they want to change."

"We were really moved by the story that you're stronger together than you are alone."

"And we really wanted to celebrate what it feels like to be frustrated and want change to happen," she concluded.

Sarina asked Hadley how it feels to be part of such a big movie.

The 26-year-old admitted, "I still haven't processed it. It's so incredible to me, it still hasn't sunk in yet."

The actress gushed over the, "amazing," cast and crew and spoke about how, "incredibly lucky," she feels to be part of it.

"I think that was the best part - [working with] really, really great people."

Sarina told the cast that her male friend saw the trailer, and immediately thought, "This is a movie for the girls."

She asked, "What would you say to those boys?"

Nico replied, "I'd say, 'Dude! Come on, like. There's not a lot of those movies these days, you know?'"

He pointed out how amazing it is to be part of a movie that's, "written by a female author and then directed by a female and has such a kick-a** female cast."

The actor said, "It's like, yeah it is kind of written for the women but like, it's about time."

Sarina agreed, adding that it's something that men need to be a part of if we want change.

Patrick responded, "Yeah, obviously my character kind of represents a lot of the polar opposites as Alycia and Nico's character."

"But I'm also the one that springs about this movement," he pointed out.

He said his character and the, "broken norm," is the reason the movement is brought about.

Sarina asked him that it's like, "being that character."

Patrick admitted, "Well, there has to be that character, like I said he's the one that sparks this whole thing..."

"Unfortunately, it sucks to be that guy but at the same time it was amazing to be part of this film and to be part of the greater message than just what's inside this film."
