The creator of Great British Bake Off has revealed the real reason the show moved to Channel 4 from the BBC.

Fans were unhappy when the risky move was announced last year which saw ad breaks introduced and the loss of Mary Berry, Mel and Sue.

However, it's come to light that the £75 million switch was made due to three years of alleged bullying from 'arrogant' BBC bosses.

Speaking to the Daily Express show creator Richard McKerrow said, 'We really had no choice. I think Bake Off would have died if we hadn't moved.'

'Unfortunately broadcasters bully independent producers and the BBC is the biggest bully of all,' he continued. 'I don’t think that is healthy for the industry. I felt bullied.'

McKerrow has previously claimed the BBC ripped off the GBBO format for two other shows and he allegedly sued the company.

Business Insider reported that the matter of one show was dealt with outside of court with the BBC reaching a financial settlement with McKerrow's Love Productions.

However, the matter of the second show, The Big Painting Challenge, led to a breakdown in communication between the companies eventually leading in GBBO's move to Channel 4.

The BBC have yet to comment.
