Ben Hardy take on the Irish accent

SPIN's Sarina Bellissimo recently caught up with the cast of Pixie; Olivia Cooke, Ben Hardy and Daryl McCormack.

During the interview, Ben admitted he was, "terrified," putting on an Irish accent in the movie.

Pixie

The movie follows the story of a young woman named Pixie (Cooke).

She wants to avenge her mother’s death by masterminding a heist, but her plans go awry and she finds herself on the run with two young men (Hardy, McCormack) who are way out of their depth being chased across the Wild Irish countryside by gangsters.

She has to pit her wits against everyone, taking on the patriarchy to claim the right to shape her own life.

Ben Hardy and his Irish accent

Sarina assured Ben he did a great job, which in fairness, he did.

He thanked her before adding, "I was terrified, it's not an accent that came innately to me."

It turns out he and Olivia worked with a dialect coach to bring their accents up to scratch.

Ben added that his Irish co-star, Daryl McCormack, was very helpful on set.

"We were constantly peppering him with questions about our own accents."

"Yeah so it was daunting but I also tried to not let it take over everything and be the be all and end all."

Elsewhere in the interview...

Pixie also stars Colm Meaney and Alec Baldwin.

"I wanted to sit at a bar and drink whiskey with Colm more but it didn't really happen."

He admitted, "He's quite an intimidating bloke, very talented bloke, and absolutely lovely bloke."

Olivia added that Alec took them all out for dinner a few times.

She said, "He was on the other end of the table so we didn't get to chat with him."

Judging from the interview, they all seemed a bit star struck by the two actors.

Sarina also asked Daryl what it was like venturing away from his role in Fair City.

He revealed he got a job on the soap after he left drama school.

But curiosity took over after a while and he wanted to move on to other things.

"Do other characters, read other scripts and be involved in other projects."

Ben added that it was, "surreal," for him to go from EastEnders to Hollywood.
