will.i.am apologises to Irish fans

He was performing on stage in Galway with his band Black Eyed Peas when will.i.am made a massive mistake - he referred to Ireland as the UK.

The crowd started booing him and he was forced to apologise after the blunder went unnoticed on Twitter.

The band were performing in Pearse Stadium at Salthill over the Bank Holiday weekend when it happened.

Angry fans reacted to the blunder on social media, with one tweeting, 'The Black Eyed Peas were fantastic in Galway tonight, but somebody needs to tell them Ireland is not in the UK.'

While another said, 'A little history lesson wouldn’t go astray.'

It wasn't long before will.i.am began replying to tweets, apologising.

'I’m so sorry for that mistake…Please forgive my ignorance & accept my apology…#LOVE…' he wrote in response to one upset fan.

In another tweet, he said, 'It’s not confusion…I spend lots of time in this part of the world to know the difference…'
